Frequently asked

Do I need a sleep study before I see you?

You can start with a dental airway consultation if you do not have a sleep study. If sleep apnea is suspected, we may recommend coordinating with your physician for testing and diagnosis.

Can a dentist treat sleep apnea?

Dentists can provide oral appliance therapy and airway-focused support for select patients. Diagnosis and medical management typically involve a physician, and we coordinate care when needed.

What is the difference between an oral appliance and CPAP?

CPAP delivers air pressure through a mask. An oral appliance is a custom device worn at night that can help keep the airway more open by supporting jaw and tongue position.

How do you evaluate the airway?

We review symptoms, risk factors, and jaw structure. When appropriate, we use imaging such as a 3D cone beam CT scan to better understand the airway and related anatomy.

What results should I expect?

Results vary by person and by the cause of snoring or sleep-disordered breathing. We will outline realistic goals, timelines, and whether a referral or additional testing is recommended.
